How Each Character Is Supposed To Look Like In The Harry Potter Saga

The Harry Potter series would not be as interesting without all the witches and wizards we encounter along the way, all of whom have bright and unique personalities. We’ve grown to know and love some of these characters, while others make us want to cast the unforgivable curse on them while they sleep. Whether we like or dislike the characters, we must acknowledge that they amuse us very much and have had a significant impact on our lives. There are certain distinctions between the characters we see in the movies and those we read about in novels. What are some of the changes, and what do the Potter characters really look like if the movies were faithful to the books?

Harry Potter

Daniel Radcliffe performed an outstanding job portraying the titular character, the one and only famous kid wizard. JK Rowling portrays the boy who lived as a character who is too little and underweight for his age, with his father’s unruly black hair and his mother’s eyes, in the books.

True Potter enthusiasts will recognize that while Harry’s eyes are characterized as green throughout the books, Radcliffe has baby blues. Unfortunately for the excellent actor, he was allergic to the green eye contacts that director Chris Columbus wanted to utilize for his character. However, we can live with this tiny alteration.

Ronald Weasley

Aside from his signature red hair, Ron is described as “tall, slender, and gangling, with freckles, huge hands and feet, and a long nose” after his entrance in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

British actor Rupert Grint has almost no freckles, and none have been added by makeup or special effects. He is also not particularly tall; the actor stands at just 5’8″, which is below average. Rowling also mentions Ron’s striking blue eyes, which contrast with Grint’s pale gray ones. Fans were unconcerned with the physical disparities because of his spot-on representation of Ron’s silly but endearing nature.

Hermione Granger

The poster child of “adaptational attractiveness” is Hermione Granger, played by the stunningly gorgeous Emma Watson. This is a popular media cliche in which a character who is supposed to be unconventional looking is played by a conventionally attractive actor. This is entirely a production decision.

Hermione is meant to have bushy brown hair and buck teeth at least until book four when she gets them permanently shrunk. Meanwhile, Watson’s light brown hair is wavy at best in the later films, and her teeth are flawless. Despite their disagreements, we wouldn’t want anyone else except Emma to play Ms. Granger.

Severus Snape

Snape is described in the novel as having “greasy black hair, a hooked nose, and sallow skin,” which is very similar to Alan Rickman’s appearance in the films, however Alan’s nose was slightly straighter.

His age is one significant distinction. Snape’s birthday is January 9, 1960, according to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, making him 31 when Harry first arrived at Hogwarts. When the first Harry Potter film was released, Rickman was 55 years old. Some fans may also notice that Snape’s height isn’t quite accurate. Rowling says in Order of the Phoenix that Snape is shorter than Sirius.
